#BringBackOurGirls: Nigeria Marks 500 Days since Chibok Girls’ Abduction

On April 14, last year, in Chibok town in Borno State, Boko Haram fighters stormed a government Secondary School and seized 276 girls who were preparing for their final exams. After the kidnap, 57 girls were lucky to escape but up to now 219 others are yet to be recovered and people, friends, and relatives of the families of missing girls are devastated and unhappy with the government.
“The government’s response has been very slow. If these girls were their biological daughters I don’t think they would still be missing. It’s because they don’t care about the poor,” Esther Yakubu, mother of the missing girls said.
According to Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau the girls have since converted to Islam and been “married off”.
Nigerians, world leaders and celebrities among other people in the world have prompted a viral social media campaign calling for the release of the girls which has so far not bore fruits. The leaders range from US First Lady Michelle Obama to Hollywood Actress Angelina Jolie to name just but a few.
We join hands and pray for the safe return of the young girls who had and still have bright future ahead.
