FIFA President,Joseph Blatter,has
said that rather than smearing the image of the World football
governing body, the ongoing demonstrations and protests in Brazil, have
only succeeded in boosting their reputation.
The 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup have been marred with protests by
Brazilians, who are advocating for better welfare for the citizens.
Blatter said that he empathizes with the people, who have been protesting in all the cities across Brazil.
“FIFA has come out of this stronger, with our image enhanced.
Football has played a positive part here and given emotion,” Blatter
said.
“When we say football connects people, it connected people in the
stadium, perhaps unfortunately it also connected people in the street.”
”I can understand this social unrest, absolutely, I can understand
it. But on the other hand, football brings at this time to the whole
continent, because Brazil is a continent, these emotions and hope that
the cabinet can change something.
“This is not our problem, it is a political problem, but we hope
something will be changed so that by the time the World Cup begins next
summer we can have a platform to deliver it.”
“We have patience, trust and confidence in the government.”
Much of the criticisms have been levelled at FIFA,for allowing
Brazil make all the investments for the World Cup,without the World
Football governing paying any tax on the expected profits.
The citizens are protesting that their government have yielded to
all the requests of FIFA,when key areas in Brazil are left unattended
to.
Meanwhile the President of Brazil,Dilma Rousseff is expected to
miss the finals on Sunday, after she was roundly booed in the opening
game.
