Paul Wesley Thinks Stefan’s Ending on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Was ‘Poetic Justice’

Many The Vampire Diaries fans were NOT pleased with Stefan Salvatore's fate at the close of the show -- but actor Paul Wesley thinks it was actually a fitting end for his character.

“It was something I was really hoping for,” he told TVLine in a new interview, “I’d put in a good word, because I felt it needed end that way. I thought he really needed to die.”

He went on to say that he thought all of Stefan's evil actions needed atoning for.

“It was important poetic justice for all the bad things he’d done,” he continued. “He was a murderer ultimately. He’d found so much redemption, yet was still tormented. For me, him making that ultimate sacrifice was a great way to say goodbye.”

Paul actually thought the ending for his character was so perfect that he even teared up when reading the finale script for the first time.
