The Vampire Diaries' Top 15 Couples

15. JENNA AND ALARIC (‘JALARIC’)

After spending most of Season 1 obsessing over the romantic exploits of teenagers, these two made it cool to also ‘ship the show’s parental figures. (And only on The CW would a couple this young and hot qualify as “parental figures.”)

14. NORA AND MARY LOUISE (‘NORALISE’?)

LGBT representation has never been one of The Vampire Diaries‘ strong points, although the addition of heretic lovers Nora and Mary Louise in Season 7 was a step in the right direction. I’d say it was a hell of a ride… but that would be kind of tasteless, given how the couple’s story ended.

13. BONNIE AND JEREMY (‘BEREMY’)

Theirs wasn’t necessarily the most exciting love story, but Bonnie and Jeremy’s unlikely pairing always had a certain sweetness to it. And if Elena was cool with her best friend dating her younger brother, who are we to judge?

12. JEREMY AND ANNA (‘JANNA’)

Doomed from the get-go, Anna and Jeremy’s vampire-human (and briefly ghost-human) relationship was powered by teen angst in its purest form. And like most angsty teens, it just kind of stopped being cute after a while.

11. JO AND ALARIC (‘JOLARIC’)

I can’t even think about this couple without the sounds of Jo’s bloodcurdling screams replaying on loop in my brain. Aside from the twins’ inexplicable survival, Alaric and Jo’s love story was easily the show’s most tragic.

10. MATT AND REBEKAH (‘MABEKAH’)

On paper, this relationship made all the sense in the world: the ancient vampire who longed to live a human life, and the closest thing to a perfect human being the TVD universe has ever known. Were it not for a little roadblock called The Originals, these two might have stood a chance.

9. CAROLINE AND TYLER (‘FORWOOD’)

Lovers from opposite sides of the supernatural tracks, Tyler and Caroline were basically Mystic Falls’ Romeo and Juliet — and at least only one of them died!

 

8. MATT AND CAROLINE (‘MAROLINE’)

Had Mystic Falls remained a supernatural-free zone, these high school sweethearts would probably be married with six kids by now. But things change. People become vampires. (Sadly, it would take Matt a few more years to open himself up to dating the undead.)

7. KLAUS AND CAROLINE (‘KLAROLINE’)

Another victim of The Originals, this couple never really got a chance to realize its full potential. But subsequent references — including a particularly enlightening phone call in Season 7 — prove there’s still a spark between these two.

6. BONNIE AND ENZO (‘BONENZO’)

If anyone on this show deserves to be happy, it’s Bonnie — so we were thrilled when we realized she’d found her true love in Enzo. Executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine that the couple’s love is “eternal,” so maybe there’s hope for them yet? (Who really needs a heart, right?)

 

5. STEFAN AND CAROLINE (‘STEROLINE’)

While Caroline has literally been planning her wedding to Stefan since the TVD pilot, it took Stefan a little longer to come around to the idea. And even though their wedding reception went down in actual flames, we suspect the couple’s personal flame will burn brightly forever.

4. STEFAN AND ELENA (‘STELENA’)

If you don’t believe it’s possible to love someone without still being in love with them, look no further than these amiable exes. We’ll always remember “Stelena” fondly as the romance that (re)started it all.

3. DAMON AND ELENA (‘DELENA’)

No one said this couple didn’t get off to a rocky start (Damon can still feel that slap!), but the more these two got to know each other, the less they could deny what was between them. Their love has conquered every obstacle — be it emotional, villainous or interdimensional — thrown their way. And the journey ain’t over yet, folks.

1 + 2. KATHERINE AND THE SALVATORES

Why didn’t we choose between Stefan-Katherine or Damon-Katherine you ask? Frankly, we’re pretty sure that “choosing” has never been this thruple’s forté. Besides spanning nearly 200 years, this love triangle is as passionate as it is volatile — down to the last bell ring, it would seem.
