You Klaroline shippers may get what you want...
The Vampire Diaries is over, but those shippers hoping for Caroline (Candice King) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) to happen still might get what they want.
The series finale of the main show saw Caroline's husband Stefan sacrifice his life to save Mystic Falls.
In the episode's closing moments, Caroline was seen opening a boarding school in Stefan's memory, where she received a $3 million cheque from Klaus - suggesting that he hasn't forgotten about her.
Showrunner Julie Plec let slip that she's looking into the possibility of a new spin-off series, while discussing Alaric's appearance on The Originals.
"Matt Davis is going to appear," she told Bustle. "Alaric Saltzman will be dropping into New Orleans and he'll be bringing with him a piece of information from Mystic Falls that will impact the future of a character on The Originals and possible additional opportunities for a new series down the road."
Oh my.
So is there really going to be another spin-off?
"It's so funny, literally every single person is asking me that question," she said. "I figured everybody would be like, 'For god's sakes, put it to bed!'
"Yes, of course, I have laid a groundwork in the [Vampire Diaries series] finale itself for future expansion of the universe."
And Plec seems keen to have Caroline and Klaus on screen together again, given these quotes to The Hollywood Reporter:
"Obviously our timelines did not match up, so Caroline and Klaus are not coming face to face in this season. That being said, we do have crossover elements in the upcoming season of The Originals that's about to start airing, and it all brings it back to what I see as a future for either The Originals or another piece of the franchise to launch off of the end of The Originals.
"So I look forward to being able to play around in that sandbox and see if I can make something of it."
Of course, for any Caroline and Klaus spin-off to work, the creators would have to write Joseph Morgan out of The Originals.
